LOCAL JOURNAL UTILIZATION REPORT
|
|
|
The Local Journal Utilization Report
is a statistical database listing the frequency with which an institution's researchers publish in
Thomson Scientific-indexed journals, and the frequency with which they cite
Thomson Scientific journals and other works (theses, government reports, etc.) in their publications. Frequencies are calculated both annually and cumulatively from 1981 through the current year. The Report also includes information on journal publisher, ISSN, and
Thomson Scientific journal category assignment.
FEATURES

The Local Journal Utilization Report can be used to manage collection development through a systematic, objective approach, and identify the most important journals for your researchers. This tool enables librarians to manage collection development by determining which journals are essential and which are peripheral to their local community of researchers.
This database can be used to:
- Manage collection development through a systematic, objective approach
- Identify the most important journals for your researchers
- This tool enables librarians to manage collection development by determining which journals are essential and which are peripheral to their local community of researchers.
Example:
Imagine that the University of Northern California wants to examine its collection of serials.
Thomson Scientific will examine all papers published by researchers at the University of Northern California during 1981-2001 in
Thomson Scientific-indexed journals and determine that research community's frequency of publication in those journals, title by title. It will also collect all the citations appearing in the papers of University of Northern California faculty members and then list the journals cited, title by title. Both lists will be ranked by frequency, of either publication or citations, as well as alphabetically, and will contain annual as well as total citation counts so that upward or downward trends can be identified.
