JOURNAL ANALYSIS DATABASE

The Journal Analysis Database is a collection of each paper published in a particular journal indexed by Thomson Scientific. The dataset contains all standard bibliographic information for each paper indexed plus year by year and total citation counts for each paper. There is a linked file of expected citation rates for each paper, based on the journal title, publication year and document type (article, review, editorial, etc.). Optional files of all Citing and/or Cited Papers may be ordered; these contain the same type of bibliographic data as the source papers.

FEATURES

Data for each paper include: all author names, regardless of order of position; addresses with separate data elements for institutional name, department, section, lab, city, state, province, country; article title; journal title, including volume, beginning page number, year; document type; category; and of course, annual and total citation counts. With this type of database detailed bibliographic and citation data on every paper the data can be searched, grouped, summarized, and ranked using any data elements, such as author names (all author names), institution, discipline, year, citation count, collaborating institutions or nations, etc. These data, in this database structure, allow virtually any type of analysis of output of papers and influence in terms of citations or citations per paper.

Use Thomson Scientific’s Journal Analysis Database to:

  • Identify the most cited and most frequently appearing authors publishing in your journal.
  •  Analyze authors and institutions publishing in your journal by their geographic location.
  •  Classify your journal’s most cited studies by topic to learn which subjects have provoked the greatest interest among researchers.
  •  Discover the degree to which different types of articles, such as reviews, notes, letter, meeting abstracts, etc., are actually cited and therefore appeal to readers.
  • Perform all the above analyses over time, for each year.
  • Gauge the international appeal of your journal by analyzing the national origins of the papers that cite your journal.
  • Determine, using a linked file of citing papers, which authors cite your journal’s papers most frequently and find out whether or not they are subscribers.
  • Formulate hundreds of other queries based on author names, citation counts, institutional or national addresses, topics, etc. The possibilities are nearly infinite.
