Between 1995 and 1999, ISI indexed 17,848 papers that listed at least one author address in Turkey. Of those papers, the highest percentage appeared in journals classified under the heading of pharmacology. In that field and the others listed
above—those in which Turkey contributed at least 95 papers to ISI-indexed journals during the five-year
period—the country's citations-per-paper impact was below the world average (as shown in the right-hand column). The impact of research from Turkey compared most favorably to the world average in computer science, with relatively strong performance in engineering and molecular biology.
